This being the 50 year anniversary of karting in Tasmania the SKC is endeavouring to make this years’ Statewide Series bigger and better than any previous. For instance, the SKC have commissioned Brad Moss to produce hand-made trophies to highlight the special significance of this Series. These trophies will be awarded at the State karting dinner to be held in Smithton on the Saturday night of the State Titles weekend on 6 – 8 Nov 2009.
An issue that has arisen for the organising committee is whether we run the Over 40s as a pro weight class (150kg as per State Titles) or Light (140kg) and Heavy (160kg) classes. The committee is leaning towards running a Light and Heavy class but we’d like your input.
The numbers for the Over 40s Heavy in last years’ Statewide Series were very low with 4 competitors at best at any round so we’re trying to get an indication of the number of drivers in the Heavy category who anticipate competing in the Series and feedback from all drivers as to their preferences’ regarding weights for the Over 40s class in this Series.
*We encourage all Over 40 drivers to participate in this Series and help strengthen what in the past has been a very strong and successful class.*
To enable the SKC to budget and organise the Series the committee have set the following rules:
The minimum class number to run in their own final will be 6.
An aggregate of all entries will be tallied at the end of the Series and trophies awarded as below:
· 24 and above entries: 1st, 2nd, 3rd
· 21 to 23 entries: 1st, 2nd
· 6 to 20 entries: 1st
Further, each entrant to be a Series contender must compete at 3 of the 4 rounds. For this year all races will count towards the Series; there will be no dropped rounds.
The dates of the Series are:
22 February at STKC
21/22 March at CHKC
3 May at NWKC
13/14 June at LKC
Please print and pass on, or forward this email on, to any Over 40s you know don’t have an email address or to those we may not have on our mailing list.
Please reply as soon as you can as the format of the Series is to be finalised very soon. Thanks very much.
